Background
B.A. University of California at San Diego 1987
Juris Doctor University of San Diego, School of Law 1990
Tony was born in Bogotá,
Colombia, and raised in Paraguay, Mexico, Spain and the San
Diego area. Tony traveled extensively in his youth with his
parents, who were Spanish Literature Professors. Spanish
was his first language and Tony spent several frustrating
months when he was young learning the English language. In
1974, he attended Colegio Alamán in Madrid, Spain, and has
since traveled abroad on many occasions in order to further
his language skills.
Tony is a 1987 graduate of
the University of California at San Diego, where he majored
in Economics. He then attended law school at the University
of San Diego School of Law, where his successes in Moot
Court competition led him to become a Moot Court Board
Member in his third year of law school.
Upon graduating from the
University of San Diego School of Law, he joined the Law
Offices of Tuverson & Hillyard, a mid-size insurance defense
firm, whose San Diego Branch was headed by John Farmer.
Tony trained directly under Mr. Farmer, and in 1998, the
current partnership was formed in order to consolidate the
talents and experience of both partners.
Over the last 14 years, Tony
has successfully tried over 18 judge and jury cases in
California and Nevada to conclusion, involving a variety of
litigation areas, including automobile liability, premises
liability, medical malpractice, insurance bad faith and
plaintiff insurance subrogation. Tony has also been
involved in many partially tried construction defect cases,
including one Nevada trial which lasted three weeks before
settling.
Tony has been active in
providing seminars to the insurance industry, and recently
gave a one day seminar to beginning paralegals entitled “The
Personal Injury Paralegal in California,” sponsored by the
Institute for Paralegal Education, as well as several “Bad
Faith” and “Nevada Chapter 40" seminars to local adjusters.
Tony married his wife, Beth,
in June, 1988. They have four children: son Taylor, age 18;
daughter, Laynie, age 16; and sons Dalton, age 13 and
Griffen, age 10. They are expecting their fifth child in
February of next year. Tony is very involved with his
children’s sports and educational activities. This year
will mark his fifteenth year of involvement in the Poway
American Little League, both as Manager/Coach, Board Officer
and All-Star Coach. Last year, the PALL 9/10 All-Stars made
the seni-finals of their tournament.
